NOPOSBLWAY, CA - "The crime scene points to a murder-suicide," said Detective Jimmy Greenley, of the Montereo County Sheriff's Department. The crime scene is the now widely publicized deaths of two prominent advertisers. The men had rented a bungalow for the weekend. The staff entered the bungalow Monday morning when the couple had not checked out and did not respond to phone calls.

"I don't see the suicide angle," said Connie Parks, an investigative reporter researching a book based on the incident. "You've got two guys tied to chairs. Both of them have been beaten up. Both of them have been shot three times. And their wallets are gone. This is suicide?"

"I'll grant you, it's a puzzle," responded Greenley, "but there's no getting around the locked door. Nobody went in except them, and nobody came out. They went in alive, and now they're dead. There isn't much to investigate, is there?"

Parks was unswayed. "Well, that's not much of an explanation, is it? I mean, the place has windows. And did they find the gun? I think they need to at least look into the idea of a double-homicide here."

"We're not locked into one theory," hedged Greenley, becoming obviously perturbed, "but when the facts of a case obviously point to one inescapable conclusion, well, we can't ignore that, either."
